STONEHAM, MA - A 73-year-old Pine Street woman will be able to spread some Christmas cheer to her friends and relatives thanks to a mystery man who came to her rescue this past Friday afternoon. At approximately 1 p.m., the Pine Street woman had her pocket book stolen from the front seat of her Ford Escort in the Caldor's parking lot. The victim said she placed her pocketbook in her car and as she went to put other items in her vehicle, a youth opened the passenger side door and grabbed the pocketbook. The pocketbook contained approximately $800 that the woman had hoped to use for Christmas shopping.

Thankfully a nearby shopper saw the incident and chased the youth, who threw the pocketbook into a nearby shopping carriage. The man returned the pocketbook, with all of its items intact, to Caldors who contacted the appreciative woman.

Stoneham police would like to present the man with a special commendation, but unfortunately the victim was only able to remember that the individual lived in Wakefield. If anyone knows the identity of the quick-thinking individual who saved one woman's Christmas, contact Inspector John Leccese at the Stoneham Police Station.
