STONEHAM, MA - Three youths were arrested last Thursday night after they allegedly chased two other youths while wearing masks from the movie 'Scream' and carrying razor blades.
A 15, 16 and 17-year-old were arrested at approximately 11 p.m. after a search of the area.
Police received a call from a Merrow Lane resident who told them that two youths had run up to her house and banged on her door. When she answered, the boys told her that they had been chased by a group of youths and explained that they were frightened of being attacked.
They told the woman that the group had been wearing masks and were throwing eggs and razor blades at them.
When police arrived at the scene, the boys had already left the woman's Merrow Lane home and were walking through Pomeworth Park when police found them. Officers spoke to the two and obtained a description of the group of attackers.
As the officers spoke to the two boys, the boys spotted the blue Chevrolet Caprice which the group of teenagers had been driving in and pointed it out to police.
Based on this information, police set up a search of the area and eventually pulled over a vehicle which matched the youth's description at the corner of Wright and Maple streets.
In the vehicle, police found three 'Scream' masks and Jiffi Cut sheathed razor blades. All three were arrested and were charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
"They were riding around and intimidating these kids and allegedly throwing razor blades and eggs at them," Police Lieutenant Gregory O'Keefe said. "I don't think anyone has to be a brain surgeon to know that throwing razor blades is dangerous.
On Sunday afternoon, a report was filed which described a similar incident which police believe may be attributable to the same group.
Two men were walking along Main Street near Walgreen's Pharmacy at about the same time last Thursday night when an "old blue" sedan pulled up next to them. The four occupants of the car are alleged to have harassed the two men while wearing 'Scream' masks. Police reports say that the occupants yelled obscenities and threatened the lives of the two men.
After a short period, one of the passengers in the rear of the car threw a bottle at the men. The men fled to safety inside Blockbuster Video and placed a call to police.
According to Lt. O'Keefe, the three youths may be brought up on additional assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charges for this incident.
