STONEHAM, MA - "Generations in Action," the Town of Stoneham's visioning project designed to involve citizens in planning the town's future is holding the last of its Focus Groups this month. The committee will now begin to consolidate and clarify the many statements gathered from participants in those public discussions.

To keep townspeople and "stakeholders" informed through the project, "Generations" volunteers have been reaching out to the public with articles posting samples of people's ideas, and holding Media One Cable TV call-in shows. In keeping with the "Generations" stress upon public participation, the public was invited to a meeting on Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Banquet Room. There, working in small groups, volunteers consolidated these statements and ideas into categories, so that an inclusive, well-organized and clear "vision" of the Town's future, according to its people, will emerge.

The ideas gathered have been in various categories including service and government, neighborhood aesthetics, education, activities/events, etc. Volunteers hope citizens will help to make sure that all important aspects and details of the people's input are included in the project's report.

Following this consolidation of citizens' ideas for the Town, "Generations" will call once more on the public in June with a brief mailing, asking people to set the final priorities of these visions for the Town's future. These priorities will then be publicly presented at the June 29th Selectmen's Meeting.

Over 200 people of all ages, and about 27 Focus Groups, have taken part in the visioning project. The "Generations in Action" project is funded (in part) by a Municipal Incentive Grant awarded by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
