STONEHAM, MA - Stoneham and Woburn police worked together to catch the second and final suspect in the July 23 Stoneham Savings Bank Robbery.

Woburn police picked up Cheryl Coombes, 28, of Glenwood Ave. in Woburn on Wednesday Aug. 4 on a warrant put out by the Stoneham department. The suspect was transported to Stoneham and booked around 10:30 p.m.

She was charged with armed robbery, and her car, which police believe is the getaway car, was impounded as evidence.

On July 23 a man claiming to have a gun robbed the Stoneham Savings Bank at 359 Main St. and fled the scene in a car driven by a female. Neither suspect wore a mask. Police identified and arrested the suspected gunman, Roque Pena of Woburn, last week.

According to Stoneham Police Lt. Gregory O'Keefe, Coombes claims she had nothing to do with the robbery, but she matches the description of the getaway driver given by witnesses at the scene.

Stoneham Police Detectives Edwin Peek and John Leccese and Woburn Detective Chuck Carroll were instrumental in the apprehension of both suspects.

Coombes was arraigned in Woburn District Court on Aug. 5. According to court officials, the suspect is being held in Framingham Prison on $10,000 cash or $100,000 surety bail, awaiting a Sept. 5 pre-trial conference.
