Elections

Two incumbents pulled nomination papers this past week indicating their intent to hold onto their seats for another term: George Alger, Jr., of 15 Fairview Road is running for Constable, and Vincent L. Orsillo of 11 Elaine Road is running for Housing Authority.

BRMC suit

A response from National Century Financial Enterprises of Ohio to the civil suit filed by Boston Regional Medical Center creditors is due by Feb. 22, but sources in the creditors' law firm of Hannify and King say the Ohio company plans to ask for an extension to March 17.

BRMC creditors are alleging fraud and looking for anything they can get. There are no hard numbers yet.

Sister Plante

A decision will be made in the Suffolk Superior Court Feb. 3, 2000, to determine whether Father Richard Beaulieu must testify in Sister Michaelinda Plante's legal malpractice suit.

The suit centers around a dispute between the Sister and the Church. Father Beaulieu may be able to help clarify what happened in 1994 in Fall River when the dispute occurred and resulted in Plante losing her job as a parochial educator. Father Beaulieu was a parish priest in Fall River at the time.

Supporters of Sister Plante were upset when the Catholic Church transferred Beaulieu out of the country before he was last scheduled to testify.

"We just want to know the truth.about why she was fired," said Jean LaTorella of the Medford Friends of Sister Plante.

If the court does not force the priest to return, Plante's case could end without ever answering why she was dismissed six years ago.

MediaOne woes

MediaOne kept everyone in suspense Tuesday night, but not in a good way. A packed house at the selectmen's meeting wanted to talk about the new Central School site. Channel 56 and Fox News were there but no public access. MediaOne arrived late.
