STONEHAM, MA - Candidates: Three new candidates have pulled papers for the April 4 Town Election: Marc Grimaldi of 19 Cricklewood Drive for School Committee, Robert G. Freedman of 15 Mauriello Drive for Constable and Michael Germano of 27 East Street for Constable.

Of the candidates listed in this and previous editions of the Independent, five had not yet returned nomination papers as of Feb. 14 : Orsillo, Alger, Weisbrod, Germano and Grimaldi. The deadline to hand in nomination papers for certification was 5 p.m. Feb. 15.

If all papers come in on time, races for selectmen, School Committee, Constable, Board of Health and Planning Board will be contested.

PAC question The Stoneham Parents for Healthy Schools group is not a Political Action Committee (PAC), according to state officials, because the group is not targeting a ballot question in this election nor primarily advocating the election of a specific candidate.

An existing group can endorse candidates in its literature without filing as a PAC.

If a group takes on activities, which require filing as a PAC, all expenditure exceeding $100 must be recorded at Town Hall within seven business days of spending the money.

Campaign finance forum Town Clerk John Hanright has organized a forum on campaign finance rules for elected officials, local candidates and interested citizens.

The presentation is set for Feb. 28, 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Hearing Room. Experts from the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance will be there to answer questions.
