Candidates are set for town election 2000

STONEHAM, MA - The candidate pool is full and final for the April 4 Town Election. Five of eight races are contested:

Running for two spots on the Board of Selectmen are incumbents Cosmo Ciccarello and Anthony Kennedy and challengers Robert Sweeney and Gordon Perks.

Running for two spots on the School Committee are incumbents Marie Christie and Stephen Gucciardi and challenger Marc Grimaldi.

Running for one five-year term on the Planning Board are incumbent Stephen Catalano and challenger William Sullivan, Jr. Matthew Kilty is running for a one-year term; he was appointed in 1999 after Frank Vallarelli resigned midterm.

Running for three Constable positions are incumbent Robert Moreira and challengers Fred Kranefuss, Michael Germano and Robert Freedman. Incumbents George Alger, Jr. and Bennie Pasquariello chose not to run for reelection.

Running for one spot on the Board of Health are challengers John Scullin and Bob Weisbrod. Incumbent Louis Golini chose not to run for reelection.

Incumbents Frances Akell and Jane Francis are running unopposed for reelection to the Board of Library Trustees.

Incumbent Craig Celli is running unopposed for the Board of Assessors.

Incumbent Vincent Orsillo is running unopposed for Housing Authority.

Finance Seminar

Town Clerk John Hanright has organized a forum on campaign finance rules for elected officials, local candidates and interested citizens.

The presentation is set for Feb. 28, 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Hearing Room. Experts from the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance will be there to answer questions.
