STONEHAM, MA - MCAS season Stoneham public schools gave the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment Systems long composition portion to students of the fourth, eighth and 10th grades on Wednesday, April 12.

The remainder of the test - sections of English, math, science and technology, and history and social science - will be administered between May 15 and 26.

The test is mandated by the state as part of the Education Reform Act, but passing will not be a graduation requirement until the class of 2003.

MediaOne

MediaOne has fired its contract laborers, the folks behind the cameras at most municipal meetings, according to sources close to the school system.

The cable company has yet to publicly comment on the action, which could affect local news coverage.

Pedestrian hit

Timothy Poor of Calthea Street was hit by a car driven by Frank Drago of Pamela Circle in the Stop N' Shop parking lot last Saturday.

Poor was rushed to Lahey Clinic, but he was treated and released the next day, April 9.

Police are still investigating whether citations will be issued to Drago.
