STONEHAM, MA - Selectmen chose which citizens would serve on town boards at the annual round of appointments last Tuesday.

Stoneham residents joined or were allowed to continue service on the Board of Appeals, new Beautification Committee, new Cable Advisory Committee, Conservation Commission, Council on Aging, Historical Commission, Unicorn Recreation Commit-tee, Youth Commission and Community Cultural Center Feasibility Committee.

The Board of Appeals appointments provided the only contest of the evening: five men vied for four spots.

Kevin McLaughlin was appointed to a three-year term, Paul Rotondi was appointed to a two-year term, and James Juliano and Henry Sampson were appointed as one-year associate members.

All the votes were 3-2; in each case Selectmen Al Conti and Cosmo Ciccarello voted for former Selectman and Board of Appeals member John Biggio, and Selectmen Chairman Patrick Jordan and Selectmen Darin Leahy and Bob Sweeney voted for the other men, leaving Biggio as the odd man out.

The Beautification Commit-tee has not formed yet, but when it does, members Linda Greenlaw, Patricia Kilty, Peter Gilligan, Sharon Iovanni and Joe Riccardelli will be on the board.

Michael Casella, Terri Ghanam and Thomas Noonan will be on the soon to be formed Cable Advisory Committee.

John Anastas and Dominic Ottavi will serve three-year terms on the Conservation Commission. Daniel Towse will serve as a one-year associate member. Two two-year terms remain vacant.

John Mossali and Miriam Moore were appointed to the Council on Aging for three-year terms, but one vacancy remains.

Bee Russo and Joseph Concannon were appointed to three-year terms on the Historical Commission.

Charles Driscoll, William

Jackson and Earle Young were appointed to three-year terms on the Unicorn Recreation Commission.

Dennis Visconti and Tom Adams were appointed to three-year terms on the Youth Commission.

Former Selectman Tony Kennedy was named Chairman Pro Tem of the Community Cultural Center Feasibility Committee. Sixteen other citizens have already signed up to look into the various possibilities for creating a cultural center in town. Kennedy is in the process of contacting the members:

Sheila Foley, Susan Larson, Barbara Mahoney, Peter Bracciotti, Stephen Born, Toni Mansfield, Edward Moscaritolo, Judy Katz, Joel Katz, Gayna Hoffman, Kathleen Bray, Mark Kross, Arlene Phillips, Susan Doucette, plus two members of the Council on Aging.

Selectmen said they would love to hear from anyone interested in filling vacancies on the Council on Aging or Conservation Commission or joining the Cable Advisory or Beautification Committees.

All appointees must be sworn in, and their terms begin April 30, 2000.
