Another season of free summer concerts
Published on June 28th, 2000
STONEHAM, MA - Stoneham Square will again be alive with the sound of music this summer-every Thursday evening this summer, that is, with the return of the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series. The series will begin this Thursday, June 29, with the Roy Nutile Big Band Orchestra. The concerts this year will take place on the lawn of St. Patrick Church. All the concerts begin at 7 p.m. and last roughly one and a half hours or until dusk. In the event of inclement weather, the concerts will be moved indoors to the Town Hall auditorium. All who attend are encouraged to bring a picnic supper and a lawn blanket or chair. Light refreshments will be on sale at each event, and many performers will have tables set up to sell their merchandise.
The Summer Concert Series 2000 is possible thanks to the contributions of sponsors, which so far include Stone-hamBank, Stoneham Savings Bank, Peter Gilligan (a private individual), and the Town of Stoneham. Additional funding is provided by the School of Mind and Body Harmony, A.W. Chesterton Company, Stoneham Youth Commission, Anderson Bryant Funeral Home, and the Mass. Cultural Council (for the Aug. 10 show).
Roy Nutile and his band perform both swing music of the 1940s as well as popular '90s tunes, thus appealing to audiences of all ages. Roy and his talented band have begun performing for over 25 years. All the members are accomplished musicians that include high school music directors, graduates of the N.E. Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, and former sidemen for Artie Shaw, Sammy Kaye, Tommy Dorsey, and many other famous bands of the "Big Band" era.
The complete schedule for The Stoneham Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series 2000 is as follows:
June 29-Roy Nutile Orchestra; July 6-Take Two; July 13-Squirrel Hill Old Tyme Band; July 20-MDC Youth Orchestra; July 27-Continental Big Swing Band; Aug. 3-Babaloo; Aug. 20-Quintessential Brass Band; Aug. 17-New Liberty Jazz Band.
