The Sweetser House saga ends

STONEHAM, MA - Richard Johnson will get rid of the Warren Sweetser House stored on his 50-60 Franklin Street property before Oct. 4.
Johnson's storage permit runs out on Oct. 4. Before that date Johnson plans to salvage what historical items he can from the home and scrap the rest of the old Greek Revival style house, the last of its kind in Stoneham.
"(Among other things) ...he plans to take the columns," said Johnson's attorney, Steven Cicatelli of Stoneham.
Johnson had planned to renovate the home and use it as apartments, but he was unable to obtain the necessary variances to squeeze the building onto the lot between the apartment buildings of 50 and 60 Franklin Street.
Rumors had circulated that Johnson was going to circumvent local zoning by petitioning the state for approval of low income housing for the Sweetser House units, but Johnson decided against such action.
