STONEHAM, MA - So you won a silver medal...I won a million bucks!

Dan Kerrigan, 61, of Cedar Avenue can tease his Olympian daughter Nancy with those words.

On Wednesday, Aug. 16, Danny Kerrigan walked into Chuck Savas' Center Beverage liquor store at 425 Main St.

"He's a regular," said employee Michael Clare. "He's our favorite customer."

Kerrigan scratched the aluminum seal off a five-buck "Million Dollar Hand" ticket, and when the metallic dust settled, he had the winning hand worth one million dollars.

Store employee Dan Boffo sold the winning ticket. Unlike waiting to see the numbers on television or in the newspaper, Kerrigan's Big Win was instantaneous. It took him 30 seconds to become a millionaire.

According to the staff, Kerrigan jumped for joy in the aisle between the checkout counter and the white wine — the "you break it, you buy it" policy no longer a concern.

"He promised to take us all out to dinner," Clare said.

The store gets a reward for selling the ticket equal to one percent of the winnings — $10,000.

"We don't have plans for the money yet," Clare said. "But maybe we'll have a big party and barbecue."

If Dan takes them out to dinner, they better invite him to that barbecue.

For obvious reasons Kerrigan's number is unlisted. Now there are two celebrities in the family.
