STONEHAM, MA - A 21-year-old Malden woman is dead, and a 25-year-old Lowell man is in critical condition at Lahey Clinic in Burlington as a result of a one-car accident on Route 93 North, just over the Stoneham line into Medford, Saturday, Aug. 19.

The driver, Nancy Oteri, 21, of 37 Almont Ave, in Malden was pronounced dead at Lahey Clinic minutes after the 2:30 a.m. accident.

Her passenger, Jason Stanichuk, 25, of 68 Mt. Washington St. in Lowell, is fighting to survive. His condition, listed as serious on Monday, worsened to critical as of Tuesday.

According to the State Police, Oteri lost control of her 2000 Honda Accord in the left lane. She and Stanichuk were ejected from the car after it hit the left guardrail. The car ended up in the right lane.

Both Oteri and Stanichuk suffered "massive trauma," as described in State Police Trooper Michael Miskell's report.

Neither person was wearing a seat belt. Oteri was allegedly speeding. And the State Police report said that Oteri might have been drinking.
