A message from the Town Clerk
Published on October 25th, 2000
STONEHAM , MA - Working together we can take measures to avoid possible delays at the polls on Election Day, Nov. 7.
I am asking all registered voters to read the red covered Information Booklet sent to each residence in the state by the Secretary of the Common-wealth, William F. Galvin. This publication was mailed approximately one month ago; it has printed, the eight ballot questions, plus, an explanation of how each question can affect us in the future. The questions are lengthy and will cause delays at the voting booths if not read before hand. Because of the importance of these questions, I requested several hundred extra copies for your convenience, please stop by the Town Clerk's Office for your copy while they last.
A very large turnout of voters is expected, the importance of reading ahead of time cannot be stressed enough, said Hanright.
Stoneham will have two ballots for the first time that anyone can remember. Because of the large number of races and the ballot questions, the state had no choice but to print our ballot on two separate cards. All voters will be handed the ballot (two cards), please remember, after voting, please deposit two cards into the ballot box when you checkout.
We are asking voters to enter the Town Hall through the auditorium doors, which indicates their specific precinct. Far left (Precincts 1&2), middle (Precincts 3&4) and far right (Precincts 5&6).
There will be election workers outside on the apron of the Town Hall with information regarding precinct guidance. Now that we have new voting equipment in place, these election workers will also have sample ballots if assistance is required. This equipment (Accu-Vote) was used for the first time in the primary election in September and we were very pleased with its efficient performance.
I want to thank all voters in advance for reading the ballot questions, as this will make the process of voting faster and less frustrating. This will be a very busy day for the staff of the Town Clerk's Office and the Election Workers, however, we will make every effort to make your privilege of voting as simple and fast as possible.
If you have any questions about voting, please do not hesitate to call the Town Clerk's Office at 279-2650.
