STONEHAM, MA - An obsessively consistent criminal robbed the 140 Franklin St. Dairy Mart Monday afternoon, almost exactly one week after robbing the 427 Main St. Dairy Mart.

“We think it’s the same guy,” said Stoneham Detective Ed Peek.

According to police, the suspect usually waits until the store is empty. Then he brandishes a knife and demands money from the cash register. No one has been hurt.

The suspect is described by police as a white or light skinned male in his 30s, around six feet tall and skinny, with a “scruffy” appearance.

According to police, the suspect stole around $300 from the Main Street store at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 and got around $500 from Franklin Street at 1:30 p.m. on Jan 29.

No one saw a car at the first robbery, but a witness spotted an old Oldsmobile (“blue or maybe gray,” according to the police report) leaving the scene on Jan 29.

Stoneham Police are investigating the crimes and checking with other area departments for any related robberies.

Calls to the Dairy Marts were not returned in time for this edition.

Looking back, on June 18, 2000, two suspects blundered a robbery attempt at the 41 Main Street Dairy Mart. They were chased off, and one man was later arrested for the crime.

To help the hardworking people of these often victimized stores, please call Detective Peek at 438-1215, ext. 3133, with any information about the robberies. The sources of all leads remain confidential.
