Stoneham High students display artistic talent

STONEHAM , MA - Several members of the Stoneham Music Staff participated in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Music Festival this past week. In attendance were Mr. Ed Grammer, Mrs. Geri Cruikshank, Mr.Len Simboski, Ms. Joan DiCologero, and Mr.Greg Condakes. Mr. Robert Lague, Stoneham Fine Arts Program Director, presented a session on "Broadway Musicals for Secondary School Directors." On Saturday, March 17, the All-State concert was held at Symphony Hall in Boston. Two Stoneham High students, Marlena Fecho (alto) and Eric Blackman (trumpet), performed with the All-State Chorus and Band respectively.

Also, Ms.Danielle Catalano, Ms. Diane Pierce, Ms. Carol Miller and Ms. Barbara Haber of the Stoneham Schools Art Staff were presenters at the National Art Educators Assoc-iation National Convention in New York City during this past week.

The biggest news in the Stoneham High arts world is that the SHS Drama Club production of “Mirrors" has won the Massachusetts Drama Guild Semi-Final Competition. They have been selected to perform at the State Finals. The performance will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, at the Hancock Hall in Copley Square. Beth Zieff, Stoneham Drama Teacher and Guidance Counselor, is the director.

To get through this process, Stoneham won the opening round and the semi-finals. Out of 150 schools, only 15 were chosen. This is the first time in 12 years that Stoneham has made it to the finals. In addition, Elizabeth Francis and Dan Braganca received All-Star Awards for Excellence in Acting.

The cast is as follows: Elizabeth Breen, Elizabeth Francis, Joseph Laiosa, Courtney Boyd, Allison Lacy, Chaci Ciano, Daniel Braganca, Anne McDonnell, Katie Lacy, Liza Blackman, and Farrell Boghos.

The production Staff is as follows: Ms. Beth Zieff (Director), Jill Angelosanto, Rosie Kenney, Yan Yan Yii, Patrick Hume, Daniel Blanchard, Erin Molloy, Becky LaMattina, P.J. Ward, Mr. Dave Thistle, Daniel Blanchard, Steven Sheppard, Jessica DiPietro, Christine Marhafer, Crystal Epstein, Ally Paonessa, Tina Giucciar-di, Katie Doherty, Tory Mata, Janine D'Alelio, Mary Bridges, Jaki Cariton, Mark Catalano, Pam DeAmicis, Catherine Dunham, Josh Gondelmann, Sam Hoyland, Kelley Joyce, Beth Mata, Alison Wilson-Pierce, and Mr. Michael Hecker.
