Selectmen don’t want liquor at the theatre

STONEHAM, MA - Selectmen voted 3-2 not to recommend favorable action on Article 34 of the May 7 Town Meeting, a request from Al Symes, owner of the Stoneham Theatre, for the right to sell alcohol at shows.
Attorney Charles Houghton represents Symes. Houghton said that he was surprised by the vote but noted that it was an informal vote.
“The opinion of the Selectmen doesn’t mean any more than anyone else’s opinion,” Houghton said.
As with all articles, the people take the final vote at Town Meeting.
