STONEHAM, MA -

Gutierrez update

Three parties have appealed the Stoneham Selectmen and Planning Board approval of the Gutierrez site plan for the Woodland Road office park: the Melrose Planning Board, the Medford Planning Board, and a citizens group of Stoneham and Melrose residents in the Ravine Road neighborhood.

Representatives from Gutierrez have met with all three parties. Gutierrez presented information about traffic, safety and drainage. The planning boards and citizens are looking over this information. At this point, Gutierrez is waiting for further feedback.

Gutierrez Attorney Charlie Houghton said that the delay will not bother his client much because regardless of legal action, Gutierrez wouldn’t be able to build for at least six months, until architectural drawings are complete.

New faces of power

Tonight a joint committee of the Selectmen and School Committee will appoint the person to finish the final year of Mary Pecoraro’s term. Pecoraro, two years into her School Committee term, won a seat on the Board of Selectmen in the April 3 election.

At the next meeting of the Selectmen on May 1, the Board will begin public discussion of the new Town Administrator. TA Screening Committee Chairwoman Janice Houghton submitted her committee’s short list of five finalists to Selectmen today.

“They’re all qualified people,” Houghton said.

Selectmen can pick someone from the list or look for more applicants.

“We’re early in the process,” said Selectmen Chairman Tony Kennedy.
