STONEHAM, MA - Senator Richard R. Tisei called on his Senate colleagues to endorse a recently released proposal, which would fully fund the voter approved Clean Elections Law. "I believe in the will of the people. The voters in 1998overwhelmingly passed the Clean Elections law, so I believe that we (the Legislature) must uphold the law and provide adequate funding for its implementation." Said a spirited Tisei.

The proposal Tisei was speaking of is contained within the upcoming Senate budget, which is due to be released next week. The proposal would convert the existing Clean Elections fund, which already contains $22 million, into an expendable trust fund. The proposal also calls for putting an additional, $20 million into the fund, $10 million this year and $10 million the next. That would put $42 million into the fund aimed at implementing the voter approved Clean Elections law.

Spending money from expendable trust funds does not require further action by the Legislature and would allow the Office of Campaign and Political Finance the ability to access those funds directly.
