Local lifeguard saves lives at Stoneham’s MDC swimming pool

STONEHAM, MA- Nick Iuliano wants to be a doctor someday, but he’s already saving lives.
Iuliano made his first rescue as an Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) lifeguard at the Hall Pool in Stoneham last week. On Wednesday, Aug. 15, the 16-year-old Winchester High student jumped from his position in the central lifeguard chair to come to the aid of two seven-year-old girls who were over their heads and pulling each other down in an attempt to stay above water.
Iuliano got to the girls just before their panicked mother jumped in the pool. The girls are fine thanks to Iuliano and fellow lifeguard Chrissy Georgiou; she made the initial siting.
“Chrissy pointed them out, and I jumped from my chair,” Iuliano said.
Local parents should feel good that the young MDC lifeguards proved themselves in their first real-life test of the summer.
The MDC pool is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
