Local aid update

STONEHAM, MA - The State Legislature approved a $22.26 billion budget last Wednesday. The governor has until Dec. 5 to issue any vetoes, and both houses have scheduled full sessions for that day to discuss overrides.
Stoneham’s state reps, Democrats Mike Festa and Paul Casey, voted in favor of the budget. Stoneham’s state senator, Republican Richard Tisei voted against it.
The local aid figures did not change dramatically from figures released before the bill went into conference committee, so Stoneham town officials will not be caught off guard.
Local aid for fiscal 2002 includes $3,284,829 in Chapter 70 money, $2,253,662 in lottery money and $2,553,177 in additional assistance.
