STONEHAM, MA - Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy Commissioner Gene Sullivan said the DTE wouldn’t be ready to assess specific penalties against NStar Electric for months.

The final meeting between the state regulators, the energy provider and angry customers of the Greater Boston area was held at the DTE office in Boston on Jan. 17. Town Counsel Bill Solomon was Stoneham’s voice at the meeting.

A two phase evaluation by the DTE will determine first if NStar has done enough to improve service and second what penalties the company owes to which communities.

“There won’t be any decisions until spring,” Sullivan said.

But on the local front, Selectman Bob Sweeney plans to lobby NStar to provide lights for Stoneham’s fledgling Pop Warner football program.
