Stockwell Fund

STONEHAM, MA - Selectman Cosmo Ciccarello said the Selectmen have decided to use the Stockwell Fund, a charitable fund administered by the town and earmarked for the health needs of citizens, to pay for a wheelchair for Town Hall and home safety boxes.
The wheelchair will be used to transport those residents who need assistance to get from their vehicles to the meeting rooms within Town Hall.
The safety boxes contain house keys so emergency personnel can gain entry quickly and without property damage. Only Police and Fire personnel can access the boxes. The town is still debating whether to offer the boxes. The Fire Chief supports the idea. The Police Chief is worried about liability.
Ciccarello also wanted to change how the Stockwell Fund is administered. For years the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen has had the final word. Ciccarello told Selectmen this week that a majority vote of the Board should make the call.
“After the next reorganization in April, I think it’s time for this change,” Ciccarello said.
Selectmen agreed but made the change effective immediately, voting on a motion by Chairman Tony Kennedy.
