STONEHAM, MA – At the second "Guild Apprec-iation Night," held onstage April 5, the Stoneham Theatre Volunteer Guild presented the Stoneham Theatre with a check for $3,000. The money, raised mostly by guild membership fees, patron gratuities and the sale of volunteer-made Christmas wreaths and decorative spring hats, will be used to make final payments on the purchase of a Steinway B grand piano to be used for Stoneham Theatre's concert performances.

"We wanted to contribute something concrete to the theatre, rather than just a lump sum of money," said Kathy Bray, President of the Guild and a pianist herself. "We've now helped supply an important part of the entertainment the theatre provides."

The Guild, comprised of 165 volunteers from Stoneham and surrounding towns, is probably best known for ushering at all performances. But they also help the theatre with everything from stuffing envelopes and selling tickets to cooking for performers and hosting opening night cast parties. In March, members of the Guild helped solicit donations for the theatre during a three-day fundraising phone-a-thon, and in April several members will open their homes to house the out-of-town stars and director of little “Shop of Horrors,” the final production in the 2002 season.

"This $3,000 check isn't the only financial contribution the Guild has to offer," said Producing Director Troy Siebels. "Every service they provide saves us money that we can put toward producing quality professional theatre. They help us maintain the highest standards."

Annual guild membership is $20 for individuals, $30 for families, and anyone may join. For more information about volunteering, call the Stoneham Theatre at (781) 279-2000.
