STONEHAM, MA - Good budget news

Town Administrator David Berry was happy to hear that the Massachusetts House budget for fiscal 2003 recommends level funding of state aid to Stoneham. The TA assumed level funding, the same amount as last year, from the state in balancing Stoneham’s fiscal 2003 budget. So far, so good, as the State Senate debates...

NStar does something right

NStar electric has agreed to pay $10,000 to buy and install flood lights for Rec Park to illuminate the field for youth football this fall.

Bricks are bigger

Selectmen approved another apparently final revision to Dale Halchak’s site plan for renovations of 104 Main Street. The first site plan for this property was presented in 1999; Selectmen approved a revised plan earlier this year.

One of the conditions of the site plan, a brick exterior to match neighboring condos on Nixon Lane, resulted in one last delay.

The thickness of the brick would decrease available floor space by 90 square feet. Halchak said he needed the space and asked if his building could be 90 square feet larger. Selectmen said OK.

Testing in progress

Stoneham students are taking MCAS exams. The exams for 10th graders began on May 13 and end this week. Those students represent the second class for whom the test is a graduation requirement. Good luck, Spartans.

Test results are released in the fall of 2002.
