STONEHAM, MA - The Stoneham Planning Board approved the special permit for Danvers-based IRA Motor Group with conditions.
IRA wants to put a 24,900 square foot building with 206 parking spots on land purchased from ABF Freight Systems in Stoneham near the junction of Routes 95 and 93.
“The conditions are related to signage,” said Planning Board Chairman Gus Niewenhous.
Stoneham bylaws allow for one freestanding sign 15 feet high, but such a sign would not be visible from the highway. Houghton, representing IRA, said his client will be looking for a variance from the Board of Appeals to allow a sign visible 15 feet above the highway, measuring probably around 30 feet from the ground.
The final hurdle for the project will be site plan approval. Selectmen will hear Hough-ton’s site plan presentation at their June 25 meeting.
