School Comm. presents Crystal Apple Awards

STONEHAM, MA - South School acting Principal Bill Taylor joined the ranks of others recognized for their outstanding commitment to the Stoneham Public Schools on Thursday as the School Committee presented their Crystal Apple Awards.
Stoneham teacher Deanna Day was also awarded the Crystal Apple for her tenure in the Stoneham Public Schools for 31 years, which included the role as Lead Teacher in Central and Colonial Park Schools.. An accomplished educator, Day has also traveled extensively and always brought back to her students what she learned of other people and cultures.
For 39 years, Howard Dimmick has served Stoneham Schools, most recently in the role of Program Supervisor of Science. Dimmick has received numerous honors for his contributions to the field of science and this year was inducted into the Massachusetts Hall of Fame for Science. The Crystal Apple Award is his most recent award.
Jim Campagna also has a long history in Stoneham, having served as Social Studies teacher, Program Supervisor of Social Studies and as Vice-Principal of Stoneham High School. Campagna’s Crystal Apple Award honors his service over the years and his continued dedication to Stoneham High School for which he continues to work part-time in what School Committee Chairman Dan Moynihan called “his sixth month of retirement.”
The Crystal Apple was also awarded to community member Donna Weiss, recognized as an active community member in Stoneham and for her generosity to Stoneham students. Weiss recently donated funds to develop new softball and field hockey fields, in memory of her husband, Saul Weiss. Donna has also supported Stoneham High School scholarship fund for many years.
