Town’s first quarter property tax bill is in the mail
Published on July 3rd, 2002
STONEHAM, MA - The Stoneham Assessors office announces that first quarter tax bills for fiscal year 2003 are in the mail. This bill is a preliminary bill that is approximately one quarter of the bill for 2002.
Because of problems with the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds in Cambridge, deeds filed after November 2001 have not been received by the communities in Middlesex County. Therefore, if you purchased a home in Stoneham anytime after November 2001, the tax bill will not come in your name. It will be in the name of the previous owner. There is a possibility the bill may be in care of you as the new owner. We have received a printout with partial information from the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds, but there are no books and pages or other vital information. If you have sold property in Stoneham and receive the tax bill, please forward it to the new owner. In most cases we do not know who the new owner is. This problem is not only happening in Stoneham, but in all the communities in Southern Middlesex County.
Any property purchased after Jan. 1, 2002 will still come in the name of the previous owner as no information has been received on these sales. If you have sold property after that date and receive the tax bill, again, please send it to the new owner. If you have purchased property after that date and do not receive a copy of the tax bill, please contact the tax collector’s office at 781-279-2660.
We are trying very diligently to get this information from the Registry of Deeds and to make this problem as simple as we can. Please bear with us as we attempt to make sure every taxpayer gets his or her tax bill. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 781-279-2640.
