STONEHAM, MA - Stoneham Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole a Chevy truck in Wakefield and then used the vehicle to assist in a robbery of the Stoneham Savings Bank Main Street Branch office last Wednesday afternoon.

According to Stoneham Police, a male described as white, twenties or thirties, six feet tall, wearing sunglasses, a ball-cap with a hood pulled over the hat, showed the teller a note asking for cash at 1:28 p.m..

No weapon was either brandished or alluded to in the robbery note, according to Stoneham Police.

The suspect stole away with a undisclosed amount of cash and, according to police sources, dumped the stolen pick-up truck in the nearby Buckingham Condo parking lot, and then hopped in another vehicle and escaped to the nearby highway.

According to Stoneham Police, the pick-up was stolen from a Honeydew Donuts in Wakefield as the owner had left the keys inside the vehicle.

"The exact time-line I couldn't tell you, but it was certainly within ten minutes I'm sure," said Stoneham Police Lt. Rick McCarthy. "We don't know if anyone else is involved as of yet."

According to Stoneham Police, the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force is assisting in the investigation.

"It's very similar to a Lynnfield bank robbery on May 19, and we're currently working on that connection," added McCarthy.
