STONEHAM, MA - A 55 year-old Park Terrace Drive man was recently indicted on allegations that he repeatedly raped a child in his fifth floor Stoneham apartment.

According to Middlesex County District Attorney spokesman Emily LaGrassa, the Middlesex DA received the Grand Jury indictment on July 31, and Ronald Ostrovsky, age 55, of 300 Park Terrace Drive, Unit 354, Stoneham, will be arraigned at Cambridge Superior Court on Monday.

Ostrovsky will be arraigned on five counts of rape of a child, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under the age of 14, dissemination of child pornography, and illegal possession of a class D substance.

According to Stoneham Police officials, information began to filter into the department in January about possible child rape allegation concerning Ostrovsky.

Stoneham Police received and executed a search warrant from Woburn District Court for Ostrovsky’s Park Terrace Drive apartment on April 14. According to Stoneham Police Lt. Rick McCarthy, police officials found the exact location of pornographic material consistent with the young victim’s testimony.

“The victim described several pornographic items in pretty clear details that we later found within the apartment,” said McCarthy. “It’s not a crime in and of itself to own these items, but it’s a crime when children are involved.”

Stoneham Police officials also found that Ostrovsky was allegedly harvesting his own marijuana within the walls of his Stoneham apartment.

Based on the allegations and the evidence, Middlesex DA officials received a Grand Jury Indictment for Ostrovsky on July 31.

LaGrassa declined to comment on any evidence concerning the charges or the subsequent indictment.

Ostrovsky has requested that his phone number not be published in public phone directories, and he did not answer the doorbell at his Park View Terrace home.

According to Ostrovsky’s neighbors, he hasn’t been the model of good behavior during his time at the condo on the Stoneham/Melrose line.

“I always thought there was something peculiar about the fact that he never seemed to be working, and was always hanging around,” said a neighbor who requested to remain anonymous. “He was always hanging out by the pool.”

According to the same neighbor, Ostrovsky had a troubled “cousin” who stayed with Ostrovsky in Stoneham for several years. The cousin, who the neighbor referred to as Jason, would routinely have his two young sons in tow while he stayed with the alleged pederast. The cousin, according to the neighbor, moved out approximately a year ago.

“They looked younger than they were, but they were probably about six and eight years of age,” said the neighbor. “There were times when the cousin would just disappear, and then Ostrovsky would be minding the two kids.”

“I wouldn’t describe him as the ideal tenant by any means, but those kind of allegations are very shocking,” added the neighbor, who also said that there are very few children living at the complex. “There are grandkids that come and visit and things like that...but you don’t see children around here that are unsupervised.”

The neighbor also mentioned that she hasn’t seen Ostrovsky “in the last several weeks” around the apartment complex.
