STONEHAM, MA - Stoneham Police are on the lookout for a brazen thief who has, on at least two occasions in the last week, dipped his hands into open cash drawers at local businesses and helped himself to a fistful of cash.

According to Stoneham Police reports, a young man walked into the Montvale Mobil gas station shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday night, and reportedly asked the clerk for some change. The youth then left the store and returned several minutes later to purchase a drink. When the clerk opened the register, the youth then allegedly reached into the till and stole away with roughly $120.

According to Stoneham Police, the clerk didn't see how the suspect cleared the area.

A young man fitting the exact same description (baseball cap, sweatshirt, 18-20 years-old) again pulled the same stunt at Walgreens on Sunday at approximately 6:18 p.m.

According to Stoneham Police, the youth brought a small purchase to the register, and then stole $100-140 in twenty dollar bills from the register after it opened up.

"We think these two cases may be related, and it is currently under investigation," said Stoneham Police Lt. Rick McCarthy.

Stoneham Police believe that the suspect may have fled the Walgreens scene on a bike.

A Woburn man was caught in the act of shoplifting on Saturday as he reportedly attempted to steal $902.03 worth of DVD's from Shaw's Supermarket. According to the report, Richard Rios, of 15 Skyview Lane, Woburn, was arrested for shoplifting at 11:12 a.m. after he reportedly attempted to leave the Main Street supermarket with 35 DVD's in tow.

A routine computer check found that Rios also had a default warrant out for his arrest when Stoneham Police brought him into custody.
