Stoneham Police are searching for a pair of suspects involved with an attempted robbery of a Papa Gino's delivery man Saturday night - which later led to an attempted robbery at gunpoint of the restaurant itself.

According to Stoneham Police reports, Papa Gino's received a call for delivery late Saturday for a pair of pizza and a sandwich to be transported to Franklin Street. When the pizza man arrived at the Franklin Street residence, a black male walked up from the driveway in between two homes and greeted the driver before he could get to the door. The suspect was armed with a gun, and told the delivery man to get back into his car.

According to the report, a second black male was now in the drivers' seat of the delivery man's vehicle and was also armed with a pistol. One of the suspects climbed over into the passenger seat of the pizza delivery vehicle and told the man to drive back to Papa Gino's, while the second suspect pulled up in an older model, dark-colored SUV and followed the first vehicle to the restaurant.

The pizza man pulled up to Papa Gino's at approximately 11:15 p.m. and was told to call for the manager, while the second suspect left his SUV parked on Main Street for a quick getaway.

The suspect with the delivery man then reportedly struck the manager with his gun, and instructed him to "open the safe and give him all the money."

The manager attempted to explain that they didn't have the combination for the safe, and that there wasn't any money on the premises available to them. The suspect then fled to the getaway car, and the suspects both took off down Main Street toward the highway.

According to Stoneham Police, Saugus reported that a Papa Gino's was robbed in a similar manner recently and there reports of a possible similar crime in Melrose as well.

"This time they didn't get anything," said a Stoneham Police source. "All they got was a couple of pizzas and a sandwich...and that's about it."

Stoneham Police are currently investigating the case, and are on the lookout for a pair of suspects operating an older model SUV.
