A 66-year-old Stoneham man with a prosthetic leg was sentenced Friday in Woburn District Court to a year of home confinement for driving his car into a crowd outside a Stoneham elementary school, injuring 12 people. Enrico Caruso was convicted in April of negligent driving when his car hopped the curb in front of the Central Elementary School. He apologized during his sentencing hearing in Woburn District Court.

"The accident scene is stuck on my brain. I can’t get rid of it," the Stoneham grandfather said. "All I see is that wall and the helpless people. I’m as devastated as I’ve ever been in my entire life. I wish I could take it back." Last October Caruso’s car pinned children and adults against a concrete wall. Among the five people who were seriously injured was 5-year-old David Eustace, who had one leg amputated and severe nerve damage in the other. His driver’s license was also revoked for five years.
