Brothers making their own names

STONEHAM, MA - The two sons of Mario and Linda DeSantis had played alongside each other on the soccer field from the time they were able to walk, but this past year posed incredibly different challenges for the DeSantis brothers. Older brother Mike, after an All-Everything career at Stoneham High School that included a pair of Division III State Titles, two Boston Globe Player of the Year Honors and a pair of Middlesex League MVP Awards, moved on to the UMass Amherst campus and younger brother Mark was given a chance to move out from under the shadow of his older brother and bask in one final year of glory on the fields of Stoneham.
The split has worked out magnificently for both brothers.
Mark has taken over the Middlesex League in his solo senior season, leading his team to the Division II final (Thursday vs. Hingham 7 p.m. at Brockton High School) in their season at the higher division, and furthered his already impressive career statistics with 36 goals and 12 assists – one points off of his SHS best 49 point (28 goals, 21 assists) junior season -- heading into the Thursday Title Game. A Middlesex MVP Award can’t be far behind for the younger sibling, and a possible reunion with his older brother may not be far behind.
