Local Trooper recognized for valor in line of duty

Stoneham resident and Massachusetts State Trooper Marion Fletcher was recently awarded with the Medal of Valor by the Executive Office of Public Safety during the Annual George L. Hanna Award Ceremony for Bravery at the Massachusetts State House.
According to Sen. Tisei’s office, Fletcher, along with Trooper Nartowicz, was conducting an undercover operation in Springfield while assigned to the Attorney General’s Office.
Narcowicz was waiting to purchase a large amount of Oxycontin pills when three men approached the vehicle. One man pointed a 9MM pistol in the trooper’s face, demanded money, and removed the car keys so that the trooper couldn’t leave.
Narcowicz quickly exited the vehicle and threw the money, creating enough of a distraction to allow him to seek protective cover. The three men took the money and escaped to a wooded area.
Fletcher observed the assailants come out from the woods and enter a vehicle. Fletcher engaged in a high-speed pursuit chase with the vehicle, and managed to stop the vehicle and hold four suspects — including a pair of which that were armed — at the scene until back-up officers arrived. Both Trooper Fletcher and Trooper Nartowicz were bestowed with the Award for Valor as a result of their bravery, tenacity, restraint, and superior policing skills.
