STONEHAM, MA - A Medford woman took Stoneham Police and State Troopers on a high-speed chase through a rush hour congested Route 93 last Thursday afternoon before she reportedly crashed into a garage and was put into custody.
According to Stoneham Police reports, Officer Chris Dalis noticed a 2003 Jeep Wrangler operated by Nicole Whitehead, 31, of 13 Foster Court, Medford, traveling on Franklin Street, and began to tail the vehicle. Dalis had prior knowledge that Whitehead had several outstanding warrants out for her arrest, and followed Whitehead through Stoneham to the Fellsway. Dalis flashed on his lights once Whitehead reached the Sheepfold portion of the Fellsway, and the suspect reportedly then stepped on the gas pedal and entered Rte. 93 North. Dalis continued to chase Whitehead, but the suspect was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed on 93 at roughly 4:45 p.m. and State Police soon joined the chase in the area of the Medford Square exit.
Whitehead reportedly exited 93 in the Somerville area and began to circle a block in the area with State Police in pursuit of her. The chase eventually ended with Whitehead reportedly crashing her jeep into a garage on Temple Street where State Police made the arrest.
Whitehead complained of injury after the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment prior to her arraignment on Friday morning.
Prior to the chase, Whitehead had 10 outstanding warrants out for her arrest on charges ranging from receiving stolen property to illegal possession of a Class A substance. In addition to those charges, Whitehead is being charged by both local and state authorities with failure to stop for a police officer, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating to endanger
