RCN and residents ready for 'service'
Published on August 16th, 2006
Stoneham, MA - On Saturday, August 19, RCN employees and family members will "connect to something more" as they join local volunteers for a summer landscaping and clean-up project at the town-owned Lindenwood Cemetery. All Stoneham residents are invited to join in this summer service project.
This day of service is part of RCN's "Service Saturdays" community initiative. To show its commitment to and appreciation for the towns in which it offers cable, internet and phone services, RCN goes to a new town each month to perform a much needed community service project.
"RCN Service Saturdays are a great way for RCN employees to work side-by-side with residents and give back to the communities we serve," said Linda Duggan, senior vice president and general manager of RCN Boston. "We are excited to be working with the Town of Stoneham on such a great project."
The summer clean-up is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 19. Volunteers will meet at the Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham - located on Montvale Avenue between Ledgewood Drive and Lindenwood Road - to work on landscaping and clean-up projects to help beautify the historic grounds of the cemetery. The Stoneham Public Works Department will provide additional support and equipment.
"We are thrilled that RCN is bringing their Service Saturdays initiative to Stoneham and helping us to beautify our town. The Lindenwood Cemetery is in great need of the care and attention of a dedicated team of volunteers," said Ron Florino, Stoneham Town Administrator.
About RCN Service Saturdays
As part of RCN's commitment to Massachusetts cities and towns, RCN Service Saturdays bring RCN employees and their families together with local residents to complete a series of day-long community service projects that address the specific needs of individual communities -one in each of the Massachusetts cities and towns the company serves. RCN works closely with community leaders and local governments to identify the most pressing needs in their communities and arrange projects that will meet these needs. RCN encourages and supports volunteer recruitment via local television and print advertisements and promotions at local town events.
Most recently, RCN employees and family members joined volunteers from the town of Milton for a summer lawn clean-up at the Milton Public Library and Milton Council on Aging; the town of Framingham for the annual Cochituate Rail Trail Spring Work Day; the city of Newton for painting, cleaning, and other useful renovation projects at the new Newton Cultural Center; and the town of Arlington to beautify the landscape on Massachusetts Avenue and paint playground equipment at a public park.
