WOBURN - An Illinois man was apparently stabbed and took himself to Winchester Hospital after an incident outside an Olympia Avenue gymnasium in an apparent work-related dispute.

The victim, 25, was treated for a two-inch wound to his right biceps he said he suffered as he was walking out of a local gym and he was approached by a man who had some words with the victim.

As the suspect passed, the victim said he experienced a piercing feeling and then later noticed he was bleeding from the right biceps.

A description of the suspect was given to police.

The suspect was listed as a white male, about 30, about 6 feet tall with a stocky build. He was said to have been driving a new model Ford or Chevy truck.

The victim said he was in the Woburn area because of a local labor strike. The local gymnasium has no involvement in the labor dispute.

A president of the company and an attorney for that company then joined the victim at the hospital.

Insp. Elizabeth Higgins joined the investigation and is expected to follow-up on the matter today.

The incident was reported at 10 p.m., Monday.

Local police are investigating a possible link between the assault and a work stoppage and strike by Clear Channel contract workers taking place at the Maple Street business over the last few weeks.

Clear Channel workers have been striking and holding signs outside the Maple Street offices for over a week, and the Stoneham Police have been providing nearly 24 hour detail supervision for the last week while the strike has persisted.

The strike is believed to be only the fifth such labor-related work-stoppage to take place in the Town of Stoneham's long history.
