STONEHAM, MA - A group of five youths from the Cambridge and Malden area were arrested last Sunday morning after reportedly going on a spree of car break-ins in the south end of Stoneham.

Hector Andrade, age 18, of 20 Canal Lane, Somerville, Henry Martinez, 16, of 112 Medford Street, Malden, and Aaron Amato, age 16 of Pearl Street, Somerville, and two juveniles from Somerville were all arrested for breaking and entering in the night time after they were spotted breaking into cars in the Gerry Court area at 4:22 a.m. Stoneham Police originally received the call for a pair of break-ins to cars and Stoneham Police found the five youths in the area of the crimes.

The youths were arrested on the breaking and entering charges and within hours on Sunday morning a group of 12 Stoneham residents reported assorted items missing or rummaged through from vehicles in the Fairview Road, Gorham Ave., Pond Street area of town.

“One of the kids actually told our investigators that it was too easy to pass up,” said Stoneham Det. George Alger. “I don’t know what it is but people continue to leave laptops, iPods, pocketbooks and all kinds of other goodies in cars, and all it takes is someone with a rock to get whatever is inside the car.

“People need to secure their vehicles and move any expensive items of interest into the trunk or bring them in the house, or this kind of thing is going to continue to happen,” said Alger.

After booking, the youths were transported to a juvenile facility in Lowell where one of the youths reportedly jumped out a second story window to escape custody and – according to Alger – the suspects were again arrested for doing the exact same thing in Somerville last Tuesday night.
